ARTIST BIO: Deborah Argyropoulos was born an artist. A native of Maryland, she now lives and works in Los Angeles as an oil painter of contemporary realism.

Held in high regard for the talent she displays in a variety of media, Argyropoulos is also an accomplished photographer, silversmith, printmaker, clothing designer, and graphic artist. Deborah is inspired by the spiritual connection between living beings. Her paintings evoke profound emotional energy which capture the soul of her subjects with sweeping brushstrokes and heavy impasto.

Paint mixed directly on the canvas results in images of dramatic color and texture that literally jump off the canvas. Her subject matter is depicted beautifully, capturing the light and shadows with depth and richness.

Argyropoulos approaches each painting with insight and thoughtful contemplation. Then the canvas is selected and a sketch begins to appear. Starting with the background, the image takes form and begins to paint itself, says Deborah. “If you listen closely, the painting will lead the brushes and palate knives in the direction they are meant to travel,” she says. “I love being guided to where the painting dictates. It’s a meditative experience, and the end result often surprises me, as the painting take on a life of its own.”
